DJ for your company Christmas party: when to book and what to look for
When should you book the DJ for your Christmas party, and what matters most? Here’s everything about timing, music, schedule and equipment.

Book the DJ for your company Christmas party as early as possible, because December dates go fast. Three things matter most: music that fits every phase of the evening, a clear schedule and the right equipment at the venue. Here’s what to look out for.
When should you book the DJ?
As a rule, I recommend getting in touch two to three months before the event. Fridays and Saturdays in December are the most sought-after evenings of the year – for venues and DJs alike. So for your Christmas party this December: best get in touch now.
The best order is: book the venue first, then the DJ. That way, the DJ knows from the start where they’re playing and what equipment is available. Short-notice requests are still possible, but I can’t guarantee availability.
Which music fits which phase?
A Christmas party isn’t a club night. The music has to follow the flow of the evening. I usually divide the evening into three phases:
Apéro
Guests arrive, say hello and start chatting. The music stays in the background: relaxed, warm and not too loud, for example organic house or mellow deep house. Nobody should have to talk over the music.
Dinner
During dinner, the music stays subtle. For speeches, awards or other programme items, I pause or turn the volume down. We agree on this beforehand so every transition runs smoothly.
Party
After dessert, things can get louder. Now it’s time for house with more energy: afro house, deep tech house, funky house, and on request well-known hits or disco house for the dance floor. I read the crowd as I go: a mixed workforce needs something different from a young team.
What does the DJ need to know?
The more I know, the better I can prepare. These details matter:
- Date and times: start, end, and when the apéro, dinner and party are planned
- Venue: address, room, access for setup, parking
- Guests: approximate number and age mix
- Schedule: speeches, programme items, surprises
- Mood: relaxed evening or a proper party?
- Music requests and no-gos: the team’s favourite songs, and tracks that shouldn’t be played
- Contact person on site: who makes decisions on the night
Equipment at the venue: what’s needed?
Many restaurants and event venues don’t have a DJ setup. That’s no problem: I can bring my own equipment, a Pioneer mixer, two Pioneer CDJs and Yamaha speakers. For large rooms or many guests, we’ll check in advance whether additional equipment is needed.
From the venue, I need:
- a sturdy table and some space for the DJ booth
- power nearby
- time to set up before guests arrive: approximately 1 hour
- information on any volume limits
If the venue already has its own sound system, I’ll play on that. My requirements are listed in the tech rider in my EPK.
How does booking work?
- Request: You send me the date, venue, number of guests and the key details of your event.
- Offer and planning: You receive a concrete offer. I don’t have fixed prices, as the price depends on duration, location and effort. For longer journeys, travel and accommodation costs are added.
- Agreement: We put everything in writing, with a deposit. That gives both of us peace of mind.
- The night: I arrive in good time, set up, and you can focus on your guests.
I play at corporate events in Zurich, across Switzerland and worldwide, for example at a corporate event at Lake Side Zurich. If you’d like to hear my sound first, you’ll find my recordings under DJ sets.
